September Support Group Round Up
At the beginning of September, Chinatown Bilingual Support Group invited us to attend the launch of their newly completed booklet, Nutrition and Parkinson’s. This publication is a Chinese translation of the original English booklet of the same name.
This was a project that the support group had been working on for many months and was made possible by generous funding from the Australian Chinese Charity Foundation.
Congratulations to Rosanna, Wilson and the Chinatown Bilingual Support Group for a fantastic new resource for the Parkinson’s Chinese community!
Towards the end of August, we sent the 2026 Support Group Communication Survey to all Support Group Leaders.
Parkinson’s NSW strives to communicate regularly with Support Groups via many different methods, and this survey is one way to understand how support group participants want to receive information from us and which topics are of most interest to them.
If you have not received the online link or paper copy to complete the survey, please reach out to your Support Group Leader.
Everyone in the support group is encouraged to complete it – including people living with Parkinson’s, care partners, family members and volunteers.
The survey will close on 30 October 2026.
A few of our support groups achieved major milestones this year based on how long they have been established:
Eurobodalla – 35 years
Tamworth – 34 years
Macarthur – 26 years
Chinatown Bilingual – 21 years
Goulburn – 20 years
Fairfield-Liverpool – 20 years
It is not lost on us the impact these support groups have had on their communities over the long years they have been running. A big thank you and congratulations to the current leaders and committees for keeping these groups going and putting so much effort into making sure they are a safe, friendly and supportive place for people to come together.
