200 years ago Parkinson’s was recognised as a health condition.
Sadly, despite advances in treatments, researchers have been unable to find a cure. That is why on World Parkinson’s Day on 11th April, the global Parkinson’s community will come together as one and unite to raise awareness of this devastating condition that affects the lives of so many people.

The campaign concept is to leverage social media networks from within the Parkinson’s community using the hashtag #uniteforparkinsons along with sharing personal stories. In NSW, our campaign will include the following:

  • Social media posts on Facebook and Twitter from the end of March until mid-April
  • Information kits sent to Support Group leaders
  • Posters available for download from the Parkinson’s NSW website
  • Media releases

How can you support the campaign?

Facebook

1. Update your status – Perhaps you can write something about how Parkinson’s affects you and your family or just simply ask people to share your photo and support you. Please use the hashtag #uniteforparkinsons and tag @parkinsonsnsw

2. Update your profile picture/post a photo – Download one of the posters we’ve created and personalise it with your own message. Take a photo and upload to Facebook. Please use the hashtag #uniteforparkinsons and tag @parkinsonsnsw

Twitter

Post a tweet using the #uniteforparkinsons and share your personal story with Parkinson’s.

If you don’t use social media, you can still support the campaign:

  • Download the posters to distribute
  • Ask your local newspaper or radio station to promote the campaign. You can send them the media release which will be sent out on 30th March.
  • Take a photo holding one of the posters with your message on it. Email it in and we might share it on our social media channels.
  • We encourage you to take photos in support groups, at exercise and dance classes or with friends and family. Send your photos to events@parkinsonsnsw.org.au by 10th April 2017.
