Major advances have been made in the understanding of Parkinson's disease and other neurological movement disorders in recent years. While there are now effective treatments for symptoms of Parkinson's disease, there is no cure at present.
The ultimate goal of Parkinson's NSW is to identify the causes of Parkinson's disease
so that its onset may be prevented. To assist us in reaching this goal, we need to be able to compare brain tissues in people with neurological movement disorders and dementias with normal tissue from people with no brain illness. Spouses are therefore encouraged to consider donation as well.
Donating your brain for this research is not only invaluable but also a very personal and difficult decision to make. Please take the time to discuss this with your family so that they are fully aware of your final decision.
A Parkinson's NSW representative is available to discuss this program with you and any family member. Please be aware that the best endeavours will be used to study the tissue for the benefit of people with brain disorders, now and into the future. If you would like to participate, please contact our InfoLine on 1800 644 189 for further details. Download information brochure
